Ram Nation News – August 5, 2025

Welcome to the 2025-2026 School Year!

Michelle Schoene, PTO President

Hello Waltrip families!

Your Waltrip PTO has been busy over the break getting ready for a great year for our students, teachers and staff!  Over the summer, we finished up the last of our capital projects.

Look for two new murals on campus in the library and the band hallway, find your way with ease with new directional signs, and stay tuned for brand new competition gym bleachers, water bottle fillers and big clocks to keep you on time during those three minute transitions!

We’ve already been on the move this year, lifting up our staff with a first-day-back luncheon and meeting new families at Freshman orientation. We’re also planning to bring the school spirit TONIGHT at Ram Rally!!

Our mission is to enhance your student’s educational experience and support our staff through fundraising and volunteer efforts that touch all aspects of life at Waltrip.  Last year, we were able to boost our PTO membership, provide educational grants to teachers for classroom needs, bring joy to our staff with snack cart days and appreciation events, and organize fun and entertaining social events for the students (and parents)!  We organized a campus cleanup (stay tuned for Round 2!) and are constantly working to improve and rehabilitate our facilities through donation and volunteer efforts.

Our class reps are already busy planning fundraising events to offset the cost of senior year expenses. Class of 2026 – be sure to attend Senior Sunrise the first day of school!

We are looking forward to planning the Homecoming Dance, fun events around Go Texan Day, and multiple Ram Festival Days (think Fall and Winter Fest fun, Dia de los Muertos, and so much more)!  Our two major fundraisers will be Jazz on 34th, and Waltrip DJ Bingo – these events are a great way for parents to come together as a community, socialize and help raise money to boost the ability of the PTO to work for your students and the Waltrip Family.  We will also reopen the School Store (starting week 3) which will be selling snacks, drinks, and gear throughout the year.  Sign up to volunteer at the store and be a part of the action!

We need your help to accomplish our goals, so please consider joining the PTOvolunteering your time, or sharing your talents with us!  We are so grateful for you!! We would love to see you at our next general meeting and coffee with the principal on August 19th at 6pm in the Library!

Stay connected with us through the newsletter and our social pages.  We can’t wait to see you out and about at all of the Waltrip events!

Thanks again for all that you do, and GO RAMS!

New Murals at WHS

The PTO is proud to have sponsored the creation of two murals over the summer:

LIBRARY: Artist Linda Hinojos designed and painted a mural on the back wall of the library. She is a professional artist who also did the mosaic for the tennis courts last spring.

BAND/FINE ARTS HALLWAY: Robert Riebeling, 1970 Waltrip High School graduate and grandparent of a current Waltrip student, is the artist behind the new band mural.
